Dear Blogosphere,

I went through my jewelry tonight for fun. There are a lot of memories in my jewelry box. A grain of rice necklace from my first trip to Washington D.C. with my mom when I was about 9. A necklace with beads that spell out N-A-T-A-L-I-E that I saved my pennies for when I was about 7 or 8. A coral colored necklace from the Nordstroms in San Francisco that my mom bought for me when I was about 11. A birthday present from Jamie in 7th grade from a very cool store at Fashion Place mall - it's Celtic... I was briefly into Celtic knots for a few months. :-D

The charm bracelet above is one of my favorites. In 8th grade, my group of friends each picked out a charm and created a very humorous bracelet (each of us has/had one). My contribution was the spoon.

It's amazing to think about what has happened since 8th grade. I would have never seen any of this coming and I'm sure the other girls feel the same way. Alexa (the green bead), Rahz (the feet), and Sara (the frog) are at the U studying modern dance (A), behavioral science (A), international studies (R), anthropology(S), and English (S). Stephanie (the Celtic knot) is creating incredible tutus and other costumes at RISD. Shahn (the lighthouse) is at BYU studying chemistry. Anna (the sneaker) is serving an LDS mission in SoCal and Margaret (the bell) is making films at Chapman.

Yes. I am a Nerd.

Me: "I found out a few days ago that I am a nerd."

Him: "Huh, it took you that long?"

But it's not a bad thing! Really! I mean look at this definition:

"An intelligent, single-minded expert in a particular technical discipline or profession."

Let us hope we both had that definition in mind, and not this one:

"Foolish or contemptible person who lacks social skills or is boringly studious."

Empty

Dear Blogosphere,

My bedroom is looking rather bare. My shelves are mostly empty, closet full of hangers, nothing on my dry erase boards... it feels strange.

I guess the weirdest thing is to be making a move where I don't need to pack everything. I get to leave stuff behind, like my snow boots.

So there is going to be a giant sobfest on Friday when I see my older sister and brother for the last time until Thanksgiving! And on Saturday morning, there will an even bigger sobfest when I say goodbye to my little sister and my rabbit. And on Monday, I will be in pieces when my mom leaves for the drive back to Salt Lake. I can already see myself. Standing alone in 390 square feet with boxes.

Just keep moving.

So, a couple of things have led me to kind of be low lately. My mum keeps bringing up how hard it is to plan meals for someone who can't eat gluten and is trying to cut down on red meat. And then I was sort of rejected by a guy for not being worthwhile. My words... paraphrased. But I am feeling great because, today, I was talking to my good friend Arie and he was depressed because he got a rejection letter from a grad program he applied to. We talked about applying to grad school and getting rejected for a while and I told him that it sucks and some days you just gotta lay in bed, letter in hand, with tears in your eyes.

After a while, he told me that I had (and I paraphrase) cheered him up. And that it was so good that I was a step ahead in the world and that I am exactly what everybody needs. He didn't know about the thoughts going through my head or anything going on but it just meant a lot to me to help brighten someone's day and get complemented like that. I'm not one to get completely wrapped up in what people think of me, but I have felt like a huge bother to so many people lately that it feels great to be appreciated and wanted. I love you, Arie!

Ok, so now that it is 4 AM, I am going to dig my way to my bed, curl up with a book, and rapidly fall asleep.

Dear Blogosphere,

Unacceptable number of updates in August. I do apologize. The past weeks have been CRAZY. It's like I've been on vacation in Salt Lake. To update you...

-Saw Rushmore at the Tower Theater with Caitlin.
-Did the Great Music Swap with Khrystine.
-Saw The Hangover and The Jerk at Brewvies with Wes.
-Rode a long and crazy emotional roller coaster. I am finally disembarking.
-Paid lots and lots of money in rent.
-Bought clothes and stuffs.
-Enjoyed a delicious meal made by my darling Aurora.
-Ate at SLP&P like... 20 times?
-Visited the U and will be visiting again before I go.
-Set the official date for leaving lovely Salt Lake. September 5!

A Picture a Day - Part 12 (Starring Ben Kweller)


Dear Blogosphere,

The Ben Kweller concert was amazing! Everything I had hoped for (minus the nasty guy in front of us doing some serious PDA with his girlfriend and the agoraphobic claustrophobe) and more! Ben wore some fantastically tight pants to show off his awesome legs (I'm a just a penny on the train track waiting for my judgment day! Come on sexy Ben let me see those legs before I get flattened-away)! And played most of my favorite songs. Lovely.

The bass player was hilarious. He made funny faces - very Nick-esque in stats.

Maybe one of the best parts was when Ben did a second encore, with his 3 year old (I'm guessing) son on drums! Who knew Old MacDonald could be rocked so hard? Not I, not I.

So, The Avalon allows cameras! I wish I had taken mine but, alas, I only had my crumby 2 MP cell phone. The pictures turn out surprisingly good. I don't get a headache looking at them! Ha ha.

Division is Not the Answer!

Dear Blogosphere,

All is very well in the world today. I've got places to go and people to see!!

Las Vegas!








Dear Blogosphere,

I am back from Las Vegas with Khrystine, Sara, and Aurora!

Highlights of the trip include:

- Ben Folds concert!
- Meeting up with Serenity and Aubrey at the Ben Folds concert!
- Lighting and attempting to drink a shot of Bacardi 151. It burns! Oy, could I feel the spirit!
- Delicious pina coladas, daiquiris, and margaritas.
- Winning $0.95 after gambling $1.00.
- Riding the Manhattan Express.
- Walking the strip at 2 AM (it was still hot).
- Fantastic conversation.

Outrageous purchases include:

- Ben Folds' Way to Normal album on vinyl.
- Way to Normal tour t-shirt.
- Extra large surgical bandages.

It was much fun and I hope to make this an annual thing!!!

A Picture a Day - Part 5

Dear Blogosphere,

So the photograph may not be so good, but the subject is fantastic. The Salt Lake Telegram's Comics dated July 6, 1952. My grandma got hip arthoplasty (fancy way to say hip replacement) last Tuesday and, fortunately, made it through the surgery A-OKly. But she's not going to be able to get in and out of a bathtub anytime soon so we are replacing her bathtub with a shower. My mom and I went to her house this even to get her newspaper, some meds, along with other things and to check out the progress. Behind the ultra awesome 1950s tile and in the walls was this newspaper. Makes me wonder what other treasures from the past lie within the walls!

Lets see, I have a few fun things to share. Sara had a graduation party Friday night. It was much fun and the margaritas were excellent (as were the tunes! you know your friends are awesome when they have the Mentos song on their iPod!!). After the party, I had to get some petrol so I went to my brother's workplace hoping he was on the job! He was, so I spent two hours with him checking out the latest products at Tesoro. Budweiser and Clamato?! That sounds absolutely disgusting. Eww... Anyway, it was much fun to hang out with him.

Khrystine's 21st birthday party was today. It was awesome. The conversation was excellent and I drank a Mountain Dew -- something I haven't had in quite a long time! I love the color of it... makes me a little nervous! Ha ha. Then Khrys, Aurora, and I made a trek down to Costco only to find that they close at 6. LAMExCORE! So we went to Smith's instead and got snackage for our Las Vegas trip! List of things to make:

- Peanut butter cookies
- Chocolate chip cookies
- Rice Chex Squares
- Muffins?

Ah, I am so excited for a vacation. And to see Ben Folds. <3
