The Wind - Song.a.Day

I listen to the wind
To the wind of my soul
Where I'll end up
Well, I think only God really knows.

I listen to my words
But they fall far below
I let my music take me
Where my heart wants to go.

-The Wind by Cat Stevens

People seem to be enjoying my Photo.a.Day so far, so I thought I'd add another .a.Day about a topic I'm quite passionate about: Music. I'll share a favorite, new, or funny song that I enjoy once a day. A fair warning though, today's will be certainly more emotional than usual.

The Wind by Cat is one of my favorite songs. Its simple lyrics and guitar part are so complementary. I find it to be inspiring, spiritual, and emotional. I think it is somewhat a reflection of me and of who I've become.

Three years ago, I left Pennsylvania. It was about a four day road trip with my mom and my sisters. It was the first time in my life when I was lost. The only thing I knew was that we were going to Salt Lake City. I wasn't sure where I was going to live. I wasn't sure if I would get accepted to the University of Utah in time for fall semester. I didn't know if it would be temporary, if my dad was going to move to Salt Lake to live with us. I didn't know what I was doing with my life. I had no plans. I felt emotionally... broken.

Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.

-Maya Angelou

During the last few months that I lived in Pennsylvania, I listened to a lot of Cat. His music was and still is soothing. But during the move and in the first month back in Salt Lake, I really felt like where I would end up... no one knew. But, well, that's life. Unpredictable and wild.

I've always been so jealous of your musicalness. You're just inherently cool that way (well, in a lot of ways). Now I want to listen to Cat Stevens.
